We all know by now how most supermarkets have been laid out to maximize purchases.

What you may not know, is that with a little extra time on your hands, it is easy to tactically come up with a personal route of your very own making to beat the layout at the market.

If you are familiar with your favorite grocery’s layout already, it may be even easier than you may think. The trick is to visually draw out a map of your grocery, it does not even have to be precise or accurate, a simple diagram will do. Make sure you include all of the key landmarks in your diagram layout.

After you have had a chance to draw up the map of your favorite supermarket, proceed by circling or highlighting the sections which you happen to visit most often during your shopping trips.

Once you have highlighted the key locations you care about most throughout your market, simply begin drawing your route by connecting the dots, it is as simple as that. Ideally, the connections you make between each of your key points on your map are as short as can be. These short distances will make it so that you optimize your shopping trip. Also, a key benefit of setting up a tactical shopping map, is that you would not be tempted to purchase other items, such as impulse buys, which may not add much value for you.

When you have completed your tactical shopping map, simply cover it with a transparent sheet of plastic, available at your local stationery shop, so that you can refer to it each time you visit the same supermarket.

Be sure to track how much time you have spent both before and after using this new tactical map of yours, to see whether it brings you significant value. The same approach may be used at other locations, such as your local mall, or neighborhood shopping center. Savings add over time, and this is one simple way to boost your savings one step at a time.

Thank you for your time.
